To celebrate Learning at Work week, staff across HiB have been discussing the importance of skills development and reflecting on their own training successes.
As part of the recently launched HiB Academy, employees from across the company have access to learning and development opportunities such as courses and certifications, to help them progress in their role and career. Among the programmes offered are the Level 2 Supply Chain Warehouse Apprenticeships and certified Leadership and Management qualifications. These courses are completed alongside daily responsibilities with tutors and mentors on hand to offer guidance and assistance.
Speaking about the leadership and management training, Furniture Product Manager Rob Stiff said: “As someone new to line management I wanted to complete the Leadership and Management course to help build on my managerial skills – with the hope of becoming a better line manager. The course definitely helped to offer some perspective and has given me an understanding of wider business management and team dynamics.”
Office Manager Donna Berry, who has recently celebrated 20 years at HiB, also took part in the leadership training. Donna said: “I’d like to pass my knowledge on to my team members to help them in whatever development they may want to pursue in the future and I believe that my training will help with that. Business should invest in training and learning for their staff members to help improve the overall productivity of the business, and with training staff members this would only help to enhance the business. Also, I believe that it puts huge faith in you as a staff member knowing you are being trained, which could then lead to improving your career within the business.”
The emphasis on training and development is a key focus for HiB’s Employee Experience team, who have been sharing helpful tips and advice as part of Learning at Work Week. Supporting the continuous development of individuals and helping employees to reach their potential is key to HiB’s core values and the vision to make a substantial difference to the lives of its people.
Talking about the importance of offering training opportunities, Customer Experience Technical Lead Keith Sheasby said: “The investment of the staff’s training is vital in making people feeling valued and part of the businesses future, it offers the opportunity for development and gives a sense of progression to the individual.”
