Mental Health Awareness Week at HiB
As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, HiB’s dedicated Employee Experience team has been reaching out to our workforce, offering helpful tips, resources and fun activities that highlight the importance of mental health.
Using Workplace, HiB’s internal communications platform, the team has put together a full programme of videos, activities and tasks which focus on improving mental health, not only at work but in all aspects of everyday life.
As a company, HiB is committed to caring for our community and we have a team of Mental Health First Aid Champions, who are trained to support staff in their times of need. Despite social distancing guidelines and the changes to the normal working environment, these Mental Health First Aid Champions have joined the Employee Experience team in using HiB’s online platform, to shine a light on mental illness and how to tackle difficult feelings should they arise.
With recent statistics showing that 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience mental health issues each year, the Employee Experience department has organised a range of activities that promote wellbeing and self-care and encourage people to speak out about their experiences.
Among the activities taking place during the week include a creative colouring competition, time to talk videos, mental health quizzes and presentations. Staff members have also been encouraged to take part in physical activity, in line with government guidelines, to not only improve mental health but also support HiB’s Around the World Charity Challenge efforts.
Emma Cuggy, HiB’s Customer and Employee Experience Director, who has been leading the team organising the initiative said: “Mental health can affect anyone at any time and we wanted to put together a series of activities, videos and resources which could help give reassurance and confidence to anyone who may experience mental health problems, sending the message that they are not alone and help is out there.
“Caring for our community, whether that’s our staff or in the wider society, is at the heart of HiB – which is why it is one of our company core values. We hope that by sharing these thoughts and activities as part of Mental Health Awareness Week, we can give support to those who need it, especially during these tough times.”
