HiB take on the Three Peaks Challenge

Leading bathroom product manufacturer, HiB took its fundraising efforts to a whole new level – three in fact – as a dedicated team of 12 employees embarked on the UK’s infamous 24-hour Three Peaks Challenge in aid of charity. The gruelling Three Peaks Challenge sees participants summit 3 of the highest peaks in the UK; Snowdon (1085m), Scafell Pike (978m) & Ben Nevis (1344m) in just 24 hours. Covering just over 26 miles & over 11,000 feet of mountain terrain in 24 hours, all with a minimum of 11 hours’ drive in between, the hike is widely reputed as one of the most gruelling mountaineering events in the UK & a true test of personal stamina. Having undergone months of training, including test-runs climbing Scafell Pike & Snowdon, the HiB team completed the challenge on September 6 2014 within the 24 hours, spurred on by raising more than £8,000 for nominated charities Mind & Starlite. Organiser of the charity challenge, HiB managing director, Robert Ginsberg said: “While we’ve done lots of fundraising events in the past, as it is our 25th anniversary this year we wanted to do something different which really pushed our limits – and the 24-hour Three Peaks Challenge was the obvious choice. “Originally, when we first discussed the climb, over half of our staff expressed interest which was fantastic – however, we eventually decided upon a team of our 12 strongest staff – two of each from each of our six departments. After all, The Three Peaks Challenge is not for the fainthearted; Ben Nevis is the highest peak in the British Isles and Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England – while of all three have incredibly difficult terrains.” Robert adds: “Although it was a huge challenge, we had a fantastic weekend. It was great to see such camaraderie throughout the team and we are delighted to have been able to raise a significant amount for two such worthwhile causes in our 25th anniversary year.” Among the comments were…Richard Sutton:- “Tough but very rewarding weekend, I’m proud to be part of a great team that took on this challenge and making money for two fantastic charities. The highlights for me were reaching the summit on each mountain especially on Ben Nevis knowing we were the highest people on foot in the UK at that moment in time!!” Richard Berry:- “I had a fantastic weekend; the highlight for me was definitely climbing ‘Ben’. The views were breath-taking (literally!!) There were parts across the challenge where most of us had issues but we stuck together as a team and completed the challenge. A big ‘thank you’ to HiB, for a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity. Our charities were certainly in my thoughts whilst taking on the challenge.” Jon Britton: – “An absolutely brilliant but exhausting experience but more than worthwhile given the two great causes that we are supporting”. My own highlights were :- The stunning views given especially at Ben Nevis and actually completing Scafell Pike as I found it physically very challenging getting through some serious cramps and having steamed up glasses!
